KIRK BROADFOOT is convinced Kilmarnock will be a smash hit next season if they can keep hold of Steve Clarke.

The Rugby Park defender reckons the club will need to fend off plenty of interest in their manager following his stunning success in turning around the Ayrshire club this term.

Clarke masterminded another sensational win against Rangers on Saturday – to make it seven points out of nine against the Ibrox side – with only Aberdeen and Hibs getting the better of his troops since October.

Kilmarnock have nailed down a top-six place after looking like relegation strugglers before the manager’s arrival.

Defender Broadfoot hailed his gaffer and hopes he’s around to build on his remarkable run.

When asked if there’s something special brewing in Ayrshire, he said: “If we can keep hold of him, yes. If we can keep him then who knows what next season can bring?

“We will have a wee bit of interest in our players if we keep this run going, there will be a few guys getting a few bids come the summer.

“But if we can keep hold of the gaffer and we get a pre-season under him, it’s only a bright future.”

Killie agonisingly went out of the Scottish Cup in midweek but roared back with the superb Ibrox win.

Broadfoot said: “It’s credit to the boys, credit to the manager and the staff. I’ve said it before that his training is second to none, he sets us up game-related.

“Even after the game on Tuesday when we went into extra time, we were in on Thursday working on our shape towards this game.

“It’s all credit to the manager and the boys sticking to the game plan.

“The gaffer is up there with the best I’ve worked with. We’ve a good spine of experience – Kris Boyd, Gary Dicker, myself and Jamie MacDonald – then we’ve the younger guys.

“They are learning things every day and you can see that, they are taking it into every game.”
