Bell aims to copy the Bain template

CAMMY BELL aims to take a leaf from Scott Bain’s book on grabbing goalkeeping chances with both hands.

Hibs keeper Bain stepped off the bench on Friday night after first- choice Ofir Marciano was sent off in the 1-1 draw at St Johnstone.

The 31-year-old pulled off several fine saves, including a stunning last-minute tip on to the crossbar that preserved a point and kept his side in the hunt for a Euro place.

It was the former Rangers star’s first game of the campaign and his display mirrored that of Bain, who left Hibs on loan in January and moved to Celtic.

Bain played his first game in five months in the recent Old Firm clash and won plaudits with a solid display.

Bell said: “Look at what happened to Scott Bain who went into the Old Firm game and had a great performance. Everything can change after one match.

“St Johnstone on Friday was my first senior game since the play-off final for Dundee United at the end of last season.

“I spoke to the manager when I became available in January from Kilmarnock and he made it clear he wanted to sign me. He knew my qualities and experience and that’s exactly what he was looking for at the time.

“I had opportunities for more football at other places but to come to a big club like Hibs was something I wanted to do as I feel I have the quality to play at this level.

“I was delighted to get a game, although it was very unfortunate for Ofir, who has probably been the best keeper in the Premiership this season.

“I was given my chance through his dismissal but that’s football.

“He’s banned for our next game against Partick Thistle so I’ll play and we’ll see what happens after that.”
