SAILOR, Thor, Hero, Rainbow and Ultra-Violet were among the nutty names given to babies in Scotland last year.

A full list of the monikers registered for the 52,911 infants born across the country in 2017 has been revealed by the National Records of Scotland.

Jack and Olivia were the most popular names. But there was no shortages of less traditional choices.

Boy names included Amazon, Boston-Blu, Dash, Duke, Hero, King, Little-One, Marvelous, Oak, Roar, Royal and Thor.

Girl names on the list included Bella-Caledonia, Bonnie-Darling, Breeze, Divine, Heaven, Little, Lucky, Pepper and Porsche.

Other baby girls got landed with Ultra-Violet, Tuppence, Rainbow, Sailor, Scout, Vogue and Queen-Johanna.

Many parents opted to name their kids after famous figures, with boys including Einstein, Elvis, James-Dean and Peter-Gabriel.

There was also a Stewie, the name of the scheming baby in TV’s Family Guy.

One boy was called Ricksen, perhaps after ex-Rangers star Fernando and there was a Novak, as in tennis ace Djokovic.

Place names included a boy called Kelso and girls Amazon, Boston-Blu, Dash, Duke, Hero, King, Little-One, Marvelous, Oak, Roar, Royal and Thor. Bella-Caledonia, Bonnie-Darling, Breeze, Divine, Heaven, Kalypso, Little, Lucky, Pepper and Porsche. named Paisley-Rose, Aberdeen, Atlanta and Cuba.

There was a record low of baby Donalds – perhaps in reaction to Trump being in the White House.

Justine Roberts, of parenting site Mumsnet, said: “One piece of advice is to consider whether the name would still work if the child became a high court judge.”

Smith, Brown and Wilson remain the three top surnames in Scotland. ●DO you or you child have an unusual name? Contact the newsdesk on 0141 309 3251
