DETECTIVES yesterday appealed for help solving the death of a dad of two whose body was found in the street.

John McLean, 34, who is understood to have overcome a long battle with leukaemia, was found dead in West Canal Street in Coatbridge.

Police say the tragedy on March 12 is being treated as “unexplained” after a post mortem failed to identify the cause of death.

Tributes have been paid on social media to John, dad to seven-year-old twins Chloe and Lauren.

Mum Margaret posted on Facebook: “John McLean my darling son, I love and miss you.”

Another message read: “RIP John. You were a cracking boy.”

John, who lived locally, was said to have been diagnosed with leukaemia as a teenager. Former partner Leanne Docherty spoke in 2014 of doing the Race for Life in his honour.

She told our sister paper the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser at the time: “He got the all-clear after 15 years and is a real inspiration to me.”

Police say John was seen on CCTV walking on West Canal Street at 12.45am – two hours before his body was found.

Detective Inspector Cameron Miller said: “We want to find out what happened and get answers for his loved ones.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101.
