“Many of our guests are intrigued by the history and charm of the hotel, we have yet to discover so much about it even more than 100 years on.

“In one of the newspaper stories, Glasgow Rangers got beat by Raith Rovers 1-0.

“There’s lots of brilliant stuff and interestin­g terminolog­y and pictures. The Troon lifeboat team went out to a shipwreck in Irvine Harbour. And there are old adverts for things.

“It’s just fascinatin­g to look through the wording and terminolog­y people were using.

“The hotel staff didn’t want to disturb them. When they originally found them, they put them to one side and didn’t want to take them out of the clock tower.

“But I felt they needed to be seen and I hope to get them on display in the reception of the hotel.

“The papers must have survived a fire in the area that happened about 70 years ago.

“They were found behind the water tanks. It’s incredible they survived the heat and the fire.

“We also found bottles of wine from 1971 but nothing has been done with those yet.
