CRAIG: NO LET UP

Saints No.1 warns Paisley men must stay ruthless

- ANTHONY HAGGERTY

CRAIG SAMSON insists St Mirren must continue to be ruthless on their march towards the Championship title.

Jack Ross’ team could confirm promotion against Livingston on April 14 in Paisley but until then the No.1 admits there’s still work to be done, starting this afternoon in Inverness.

The shot-stopper admits this has been the most enjoyable season ever as the Saints have swashbuckled their way to the top of the tree.

And Samson said: “We’ve been ruthless and relentless this season. The form we’ve been on has been frightening and we’ve made it impossible for other teams to catch us.

“But nothing has been achieved yet and the job is not done. The manager has relayed that to us all along. Some people are saying it is done and dusted but it’s not. We want to win as many games as we can.

“This is the best season I’ve been involved in by a mile. To win 21 out of 29 league games so far is remarkable.

“It is hard to achieve those levels of consistency no matter what division you are playing in.

“The style and the manner in which we have played this season has been an absolute joy – and we want to finish in style if we can.

“Inverness will be on a high after their Irn-Bru Cup win and congratulations to them. We know how good they are and the calibre of players they have.

“But if we can play to our best we know can win. And if we keep doing that in the seven games that remain then nobody can catch us.

“Our fans deserve success for sticking by us through thick and thin.”

Caley Thistle winger Connor Bell’s best week in football was made more special by his family being there to see their Irn-Bru Cup victory. Durhamborn Bell said: “It was my first major final. To win something as a team was fantastic and nobody will be able to take those memories from us.

“It was extra special to have my grandad there as he’s taken me to football for as long as I can remember.”

Following up the cup triumph and league win over Dundee United would build momentum for the Caley Jags revival and Bell added: “St Mirren probably are the best in the league but I fancy us against anyone on our day.”
