Jim: We can drop Ton of bricks on Terrors

- ALAN MARSHALL

JIM DUFFY is adamant Dundee United shouldn’t be on the verge of falling out of the play-off places – but he’s determined his Morton side make it happen.

The Terrors have slipped to fourth spot – 21 points adrift of champions-elect St Mirren – following a dire run of one victory in nine league outings.

Third-placed Ton lead today’s opponents, who have two games in hand, by one point and Duffy has no intention of letting Cappielow become a catalyst for United’s season.

He said: “We know they’re not playing at their best but it just takes one result, one moment, to spark them into life again.

“We have to make sure it doesn’t happen against us but we have to approach the game in a positive way.

“Dundee United are still one of the top clubs in Scotland with their resources, facilities and they have a huge, talented squad.

“Let’s be honest, United shouldn’t be where they are at this moment in time in terms of the level of club. They should be looking to be in the Premiership and might still achieve that. We are not too far apart in the league and if we get a result it will give our players confidence for the remaining fixtures.”

United will have club legend Paul Sturrock back as an advisor, working alongside underpressure boss Csaba Laszlo.

Sturrock said: “We are a win away from being back on the rails. It can be a dirty win as far as I’m concerned. We can be absolutely hopeless so long as we win.”
