No holds barred in Jags survival scrap

-

CHRISTIE ELLIOTT insists Partick Thistle are prepared to do anything it takes to safeguard their Premiership future.

The Jags midfielder believes today’s clash at Hibs must be the start of a no-holds-barred survival mission.

A run of six league games without a win has raised the drop threat to critical.

And Elliott said: “We have eight massive games now and it is a case of winning at any cost.

“Whatever it takes to get the points we have to do it. It isn’t the place we want to be and we know it will go down to the wire.

“If people are out of contract then they will want to perform to secure their future but we all want to make sure we stay up.

“Last season we didn’t start well but we picked ourselves up. This year we have to pick results up now but we are all on the same page and know what we have to do.”

Elliott has become a battle-hardened veteran of relegation dogfights during his six seasons at Firhill and believes previous experiences will stand him in good stead.

A 3-0 loss at Hearts before the international break remains a sore point for the Englishman but he’s convinced Jags can get back on track at Easter Road.

He said: “We have a lot of experienced boys and have been in this position before.

“The Hearts game wasn’t good enough and when you compare that to the 0-0 draw with Aberdeen it was night and day. We have to stick together and get back to the levels we know we can reach.”

Thistle sit three points ahead of rock-bottom Ross County and Elliott also has one eye on the midweek trip to Dingwall.

He said: “As much as the Hibs game is huge, that match against County is massive.

“We have to try to get three points against Hibs but it is essential we do it against County. Every game is tough.”
