GRANT GILCHRIST has insisted Edinburgh’s Euro exit won’t wreck their season.

The Scotland lock issued his defiant verdict in the wake of a 20-6 Challenge Cup quarter-final defeat at the hands of Cardiff Blues.

And Gilko is convinced the Murrayfield mauling will inspire the Gunners to make sure they claim a slot in the Pro14 title play-offs.

He said: “We were totally gutted to lose in that manner in such a big match. We were just not accurate enough at key moments and they deserved to go through.

“But the energy and effort which have been a standard for this team is still there

“We’ve just got to take it on the chin because our season is still massively alive

“We have another huge game this weekend in the league against Ulster – effectively a head-to-head decider for the play-offs.

“It will not be hard to recover our self-belief and I have no doubts we will bounce back.

“We’re aware small mistakes in big games hurt you a lot. We have to act on what we have learned.”

Gunners had edged in from with a Jaco van der Walk penalty only for the Blues to seize control.

Nathan Fowles misjudged a Jarrod Evans lob allowing the ball to bounce off his head in the danger zone and winger Ellis Jenkins was in the clear to score.

Another defensive howler handed the Welsh side a second gift try when Blair Kinghorn failed to mop up a chip and Blaine Scully plunged over.

Van der Walt clipped over another penalty after the restart to offer Edinburgh hope but Evans hit back twice to seal their fate.
