NOW FOR BIG TWO

-

From Back Page third-bottom battlers who rallied after going behind to Ross Callachan’s quickfire opener as Sofien Moussa’s leveller helped ensure they averted a fourth straight defeat in the Premiership.

Now the Taysiders are gearing up for Wednesday’s trip to face champions Celtic before tackling Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday, with their manager backing them to meet the challenge head on.

McCann said: “I’m delighted with the performance. There were aspects which frustrated me but I think in terms of a reaction to that and where we are and how our home form has been you could have got the fans on edge.

“But we were so good and there was a real belief and trust in our work. It took mental strength from the players and that’s what you’re looking for.

“Sometimes the head can overrule the heart and you can go into yourself. However. they didn’ t and they continued to play with a purpose and a drive.

“We gave Hearts more trouble than a lot of teams have and that’s down to our intent. I’m disappointed we didn’t come away with three points because I felt we deserved them.

“We’re going to need to take the confidence from this performance into Celtic Park on Wednesday.

“It’s going to be a big task to go to Glasgow twice in quick succession but the biggest thing is we can go there and cause teams like Celtic and Rangers problems. But we know we have to be on it from the very start.”

Hearts boss Craig Levein was satisfied with the point although he felt Kyle Lafferty’s missed chance in 28 minutes was the ultimate turning point.

Levein said: “The game went end to end. Neither side had any period of control for any lengthy period of time.

“We started the game better than Dundee but they came back into it. The biggest moment was at 1-0 up, Kyle had a fantastic chance but the keeper made a great save then Dundee went up the park and got the goal just after it.

“So the frustration was we could have gone 2-0 up and then it would have been more difficult for Dundee to come back.

“Coming up here is not the easiest and I didn’t think we did enough to win but you can say the same for Dundee.

“It’s not quite secure yet, the top six. I had hoped that would be it finally put to bed. We will just have to do what we’ve got to do next week against Aberdeen.”
