Now we’ve got edge in the battle for survival
STEVEN FERGUSON believes Ross County can take a huge psychological edge in the relegation fight after a crushing victory over Partick Thistle.
The County co-caretaker boss insists all the credit for their emphatic 4-0 win went to the players after moving ahead of their opponents on goal difference.
While Thistle take on Kilmarnock, County will host Hibs on Saturday knowing another home victory would ensure they entered the postsplit games with the advantage on the Glasgow side.
Ferguson, who sidestepped questions on his own future role at the club, said: “Everything we asked from the guys they gave us tonight.
“It’s 100 per cent about the players and how they went about things that we got the result. It is a huge credit to every one of those players.
“Alex Schalk was fantastic and there were other fantastic individual performances. Start to finish they were excellent.
“It’s a massive boost psychologically, getting of the bottom of the league.
“But we realise it is one game of football. The focus is only on the next game against Hibs. We now have six games to go and know exactly where we stand.”
Unhappy at the lack of reaction from his side after going in 2-0 down at half-time, Alan Archibald says his players are fully aware of what’s facing the club if they are relegated.
He said: “The players have been aware of the predicament for a long time.
“We got off the bottom just before Christmas but we’ve never been far away from it.
“They know where we are, the consequences of it and know there are livelihoods at stake. I’m sure they know.”
