would like a family of about eight kids but definitely not now. “I’m fine with the auntie role. I’d have my own family band as well.”

Shereen’s not looking for a boyfriend at the moment.

But she added: “If something came along, I wouldn’t push it away. Right now might not be the best but you never know.

“Someone might come along one day.”

Her mum helped instil a strong work ethic and Shereen joined the band Neon Jungle in 2013.

She said: “I started a bit earlier because the boys were a bit shy about singing.

“When I was 14 or 15, I would only be allowed out at weekends with my friends if I’d recorded my YouTube video. That’s what opened the doors for me musically.”

They haven’t splashed out too much after their X Factor success – but they want to buy their mum a house.

Simon Cowell and co are looking for the next crop of hopefuls and Shereen is encouraging Scots to apply.

Auditions will be held in Edinburgh this weekend and it brings back memories for Shereen of the band’s journey.

She said: “We were deciding whether to go on to X Factor and when the auditions were in Glasgow, we said we’re not going to go.

“As soon as we missed it, we thought we should have gone on it. So we travelled down to London on the hottest day and everyone was sweating.

“We were feeling pretty prepared. That all changed five minutes before we went into the rehearsal room and we started to get nervous.

“We walked in and saw the judges on the panel and my face started twitching a bit. But it was over in minutes.

“I don’t think our audition was until 11pm and we were all shattered. But it was a good day.

And she has advice for those hoping to impress.

Shereen said: “Be as prepared as possible because anything can happen. Be true to yourself and you’re not going to have a problem.”

Auditions are at the Omni Centre, Edinburgh, on Saturday and Sunday for groups or solo singers aged 14-plus. To find out more about how to apply and audition for The X Factor, visit www.itv.com/xfactor.
