HOORAY HENRY TO SEAL TOP

- SPFL LEAGUE TWO WOMEN’S WORLD CUP QUALIFYING GROUP 2 FOOTBALL TODAY

BY DAVID KELSO HENRY PYRGOS insists Glasgow are hellbent on getting the Pro14 job done this week.

The Warriors will clinch top slot in their league section by beating Connacht on Friday.

And Pyrgos believes success at Scotstoun can be a launchpad to landing the title.

The Scotland scrum-half said: “We weren’t good enough last weekend when we lost to the Scarlets down in Wales.

“But we have already moved on and are looking forward to righting the wrongs on our own territory.

“We want to regain momentum in the build-up to the knockout stages.

“We are determined to do that this week rather than have to wait for the derby match with Edinburgh later in the month.

“The aim is to get it all done and dusted but we also know Connacht will be no pushovers.

“They have dangerous players and they always put up a fight over here.”

Pyrgos has struggled to claim a regular starting slot this season due to the form of Ali Price and emergence of George Horne.

But he is still loving life with Glasgow.

Pyrgos said: “I haven’t had as many starts as I would have liked but that happens and I keep working hard.

“There has been a lot of competition with Ali and George has been performing well.

“As a professional, competition is what you expect. Everyone enjoys it and that’s what has made us so good.”

Meanwhile, Pyrgos’s Scotland team-mate Duncan Weir is set to sign for Aviva Premiership club Worcester.

The fly-half has agreed a one-year deal and will link up with the English side from Edinburgh this summer.

Warriors rugby director Alan Solomons said: “He is a top-class player who possesses experience at the highest level in the game.

“He will provide us with another outstanding option at fly-half as we continue to build an exciting squad ahead of the 2018-19 season.”

Weir said: “I am extremely excited to be moving to Sixways this summer to be part of a very talented squad.

“Warriors have shown this season they can beat any team on their day.” COW’BEATH ... 0 MONTROSE ..... 3 SCOTLAND ...... 3 POLAND .......... 0 ALBANIA ........... 1 BELARUS ......... 0
