Martial to quit United after KOing new deal

- BY DAVID McDONNELL

ANTHONY MARTIAL could be on his way out of Manchester United this summer after rejecting a new deal.

Martial is understood to have turned down a new five-year contract offer after becoming frustrated with his lack of starts under Jose Mourinho.

Juventus, Tottenham, Chelsea and Paris St Germain are all monitoring Martial’s situation, with United ready to cash in on him if he cannot be persuaded to stay.

Reports from France claimed Martial has turned down a new deal, with his representatives having informed United of the player’s desire to move on this summer.

The France international has started just two games since Alexis Sanchez’s much-heralded January arrival from Arsenal and has become marginalised as a result.

Although Martial was recalled by France boss Didier Deschamps for his last squad the forward is known to fear his lack of starts for United could end up costing him his World Cup place in Russia this summer.

Martial joined United from Monaco for £36million in the summer of 2015, with his fee rising to £44m after the forward reached 25 Premier League goals for the Reds.

United will want their money back on Martial if they decide to sell the forward, who has one more year on his contract, with the option to extend for an extra 12 months.

The 22-year-old has made 131 appearances for United, scoring 36 goals and winning the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League in three seasons.

Mourinho publicly criticised Martial last season for the player’s lack of focus and commitment and was rewarded by improved displays.

But Martial has regressed in recent months since Sanchez arrived.
