Still Game superfan creates characters from Lego but their boozing dashes his hopes

- BY BEVERLEY LYONS

LEGO chiefs knocked back a set of Still Game figures – because the characters like a drink.

The mini models of Craiglang’s finest – Jack, Victor, Naveed, Boaby, Isa, Tam and Winston – were designed by civil engineer Michael Dineen, a massive fan of the BBC Scotland comedy.

Michael, from South Africa, commissioned a company to create the bespoke figures and asked for feedback on them from Lego – only to have his hopes dashed.

He said: “As a huge fan of the show, I decided to create the main cast in Lego by employing a company to create bespoke mini figures for each character. Surprised that it hadn’t been done before, I undertook the project with the view to submit it to Lego through their ‘Ideas’ portal.”

However, it seems the Danish firm took a dim view of the fact the ageing pals spend a bit of time either bevvying in their flats or propping up the Clansman bar.

Michael said: “Further to discussion with them, they realised it didn’t fit Lego’s ethical standards, due to the alcohol theme that’s part of the show.

“Disappointing, but understandable.”

The cast of Still Game say they love the figures and they are already receiving a huge response online.

Sanjeev Kohli, who plays Naveed, said: “Love this. Even features authentic chocolate the size of a heidstone.”
