A MAN has been charged with murder following the death of a mum who was found stabbed in a flat.

Police and emergency services raced to Craigie Place, Kilmarnock, at about 10.20am on Tuesday.

Alexis Flynn, 42, was taken to Crosshouse hospital but died from her injuries.

Forensics were at the scene yesterday as uniformed officers stood guard outside the property which was taped off.

A neighbour said: “It was about 10.30pm when the ambulances turned up on Tuesday. There were three of them and that was the first time we had any idea something had happened.

“The police tarpaulin only went up at the door on Wednesday.

“The CID have been around the doors interviewing everyone in the street but I never heard anything.

“I’ve lived in this street for 11 years and it’s quiet.”

A friend, who asked to remain anonymous, paid tribute to the mum of one, saying: “Lexi was a close friend, I’ve known her since I was at school. She was a lovely wee lassie. I had spoken to her a few nights before this happened. She was my wee pal and used to come in to my house. It’s sad and I will miss her.”

Another resident in the cul-de-sac said: “We saw a guy being taken away by police. He was still in the house when they arrived.”

David Payne, 51, from Kilmarnock, was charged with murder and assault to injury at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court yesterday where he made no plea or declaration. He was also charged with breaching bail conditions.

He was committed for further examination.
