Now is the right time for Murphy

- BY EUAN McLEAN

STUART McCALL was pleased when Rangers failed to snatch Jamie Murphy from his clutches during his time at Motherwell.

But now the Ibrox legend reckons they finally got their man at the right time – and is tipping Murphy to shoot down Celtic’s hopes of making it 10 Old Firm games unbeaten.

McCall has tracked his young prodigy’s progress since their days at Fir Park ended with a £250k move to Sheffield United in 2013.

After two successful years a move to EPL side Brighton followed to give him vital experience of one of the top leagues in Europe.

Now he’s finally at the club he supported as a boy McCall reckons the time is right for Murphy, 28, to make a go of life at Ibrox.

And there would be no better way to make himself a hero by scoring the goal to sink Celtic and book Rangers’ place in the Scottish Cup Final.

McCall said: “I thought it was a terrific signing when he joined Rangers.

“He is at the right age now. He was linked when I was at Motherwell but I don’t think he was ready then. He is now. Coming to Rangers at this stage of his career is perfect for him.

“You saw in the last game against Celtic he was one of the better Rangers players that day. It’s about what happens on the day but he has the ability to give Celtic a hard time.”

Stuart McCall was speaking at a William Hill media event. William Hill is the proud sponsor of the Scottish Cup.
