No-show Morelos gets off

- BY GARY RALSTON

ALFREDO MORELOS didn’t even ask to turn up at Hampden and argue against claims he cheated.

The Colombian frontman is free to play against Hearts on Sunday week after he won his appeal against a yellow card for simulation.

The forward was booked during the second half of Rangers’ 4-0 win over Dundee when he went down under a challenge from Elliott Parish. The Dens

Park keeper picked up a facial injury in the incident but Morelos was cautioned by referee Greg Aitken.

Typically, players request a personal hearing to state their case but Morelos was so bullish about his innocence he decided to stay away.

It’s the second week in a row a striker has won an appeal against a yellow for simulation. Hearts’ Kyle Lafferty took his case to the SFA after being booked against Dundee in the 1-1 draw earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Rangers have made Douglas Park deputy chairman of the club.

Park was part of the Three Bears who helped wrestle control of the club from Charles Green and Mike Ashley. He originally took up a director’s role before stepping down in August 2015 to be replaced by his son Graeme.

The motoring tycoon will be involved in the day-to-day running of Rangers and act as a link between the football and business departments.

A statement said: “Douglas Park has become deputy chairman of the club. Mr Park, now based in Scotland, has made himself available to adopt a more prominent position within the club.

“The role allows Douglas to provide an important local interaction between RIFC and the executive running the football club.

“This appointment was requested by the chairman who believes the position of a Scottish-based deputy chairman will assist him in the ongoing implementation of the club’s business strategy.”
