Cuppa shade chart aims to turn you into a brew-master
AGE-OLD rows over how much milk should be poured into tea could become a thing of the past – thanks to a colour-coded guide to the perfect cuppa.
The chart, devised by the Department of Dairy-Related Scrumptious Affairs (DDRSA), shows shades ranging from French Mole (no milk) to Skimmed Alive (85ml).
Other colourful terms include Whippets Paw and Action Man.
The DDRSA – a joint venture between the Agriculture and BY ROBERT KNIGHT reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) and Dairy UK – also revealed what people mean when they say they want a “splash” of milk in their tea.
With National Tea Day upon us, researchers polled 2000 UK adults and found that a “splash” of milk is 5ml (Smokey Topaz) – or four-fifths of a teaspoon.
But a splash shouldn’t be confused with a dash, which is closer to 6ml.
And although these particular terms aren’t interchangeable, a splash of milk is pretty much the same as a drop, according to the study.
It also emerged almost half of us feel under pressure when making a tea round as we’re afraid we’ll make a disappointing cuppa.
In fact, almost four in 10 have even received complaints about the quality of their tea-making.
