Couples are beaten for showing affection

THREE unmarried couples in Indonesia were yesterday caned up to 22 times each before a huge crowd for showing affection in public.

Two women were also caned 11 times each for prostitution.

The beatings could be the last to be held in public in Aceh after the canings before a baying mob last year of two men for gay sex drew attention to the province’s brutal use of Shariah law.
