Arsenal is an ideal fit for Rodgers
BY GRAEME YOUNG CHARLIE NICHOLAS has risked the wrath of Celtic supporters after dubbing Brendan Rodgers as the perfect fit for the Arsenal hotseat.
The former Scotland striker, who played for both clubs, reckons the Celtic boss meets all the characteristics required to be a success at the Gunners.
Arsene Wenger yesterday confirmed he would step down at the Emirates at the end of the current campaign after an incredible 22-year run.
The shock news sparked a flurry of betting on the Frenchman’s successor with Rodgers among the frontrunners, along with Patrick Vieira, Joachim Low, Carlo Ancelotti and the highly-rated Thomas Tuchel.
But Nicholas is in no doubt where he would be looking if he was in charge of finding the next boss at the Gunners.
He said: “I apologise to fellow Celtic fans but Rodgers has to be in the frame.
“He nearly won the Premier League title at Liverpool, probably should have done, at a massive club that understands pressure, style, class, standards.
“Then he comes to Celtic and he’s just grown and grown, he’s on the verge of the double Treble.
“I know he says he still has work to do and that could be in Europe but Rodgers has to be in the frame for Arsenal for the style, the qualities he now has and the experience he has gathered.
“There’s absolutely no doubt he fits the criteria.”
