Murty: I’ve still got the backing of the board
GRAEME MURTY insists he would consider quitting as Rangers boss if he thought he was the root of the crisis club’s problems.
The Light Blues gaffer insists he has the backing of the board as he gets set to take charge when Hearts visit Ibrox tomorrow.
It comes after a chaotic week for Rangers with skipper Lee Wallace and
vice-captain Kenny Miller suspended for an alleged Hampden dressing-room bust-up with Murty following last week’s 4-0 Scottish Cup drubbing by Celtic.
That ended any hope of silverware for the club this season and they face a battle with Aberdeen and Hibs for the Premiership runners-up spot.
Murty revealed he hasn’t spoken to South Africa-based chairman Dave King but has received support from the board after holding talks with directors this week.
The 43-year-old is adamant he retains the support of the playing squad with Andy Halliday and Daniel Candeias included in the squad for the Jambos clash despite the pair’s reaction to being substituted at Hampden.
Murty said: “If I thought it had become detrimental to the team for me to stay then we’d have a different conversation. We have to do what’s right for the club. But I still feel as if I’ve got a lot to offer.
“Have I spoken to Dave King? No. But I have had conversations with a few of the directors. They’re just asking what I need.”
