CORRIE STAR

-

BY RICK FULTON GEORGIA Taylor has labelled her surrogate pregnancy storyline “bonkers” as her character Toyah Battersby finally becomes a mum next week – after pal Eva gives birth to a daughter in a bathroom.

It’s the latest bizarre twist in the Coronation Street storyline that has seen Toyah tangle herself in a web of lies.

The plot began when she hired a surrogate, after finding she was unable to have a baby herself with partner Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne).

Tragically, the surrogate suffered a miscarriage but her best friend Eva (Catherine Tyldesley) promised to give Toyah her child after she found out she was pregnant from a one night stand with Aidan Connor (Shayne Ward).

If this wasn’t enough to make your head spin, Eva, who has been packed off to a cottage away from Weatherfield, goes into labour after locking herself in a bathroom. Toyah has to break down the door and delivers the baby herself.

Georgia, 38, said: “The scenes were so intense to film. It was full on but that’s what you want. When I first read the storyline I thought it was absolutely bonkers, in the way that a lot of the best soap storylines are.”

Georgia first appeared as Toyah in 1997 before leaving in 2003, only to return two years ago.

During those years, Toyah has had some controversial storylines – including being Corrie’s first female character to be involved in an under-age sex storyline, which was criticised by Watchdogs.

Toyah was also beaten and raped by Phil Simmonds.

As well as portraying Toyah’s grim determination to become a mum, next week’s scenes will also see Georgia using her knowledge of medical matters from her time in Casualty.

In Monday’s episodes, Toyah facetimes Eva and notices she doesn’t look well, so she drives to the cottage and arrives to hear’s Eva’s screams coming
