WHAT WENT ON AT GERS?

Mulgrew: I had to stay low key to avoid red Boss should be the guy that buys

From Back Page Scottish Cup thrashing from Celtic.

But, almost two weeks after club sources claimed they were facing the axe for rounding on manager Graeme Murty in the immediate aftermath of that defeat, Wallace and Miller are still waiting to be told why they have been suspended.

The contact with the players’ union has been described as “dismissive” and “minimal”.

We revealed last week shocked team-mates are ready to contest the club’s version of events by insisting neither player was involved in a bust-up with the manager.

There’s a growing feeling among them that Wallace and Miller have been hung out to dry by their bosses.

In fact a significant number have been lining up to help the pair clear their names by insisting Murty was not even present throughout most of what became a heated on-the-spot post-mortem.

Managing director Stewart Robertson banned both players from Auchenhowie and Ibrox last Tuesday and vowed to hold an internal probe into what went on inside the Hampden dressing room.

But although there were around 30 eye witnesses it’s not clear if any of them have yet been asked to give a detailed account.

And Wallace and Miller are still waiting to be told what they were supposed to have done in order to merit the steep punishment which seems SCOTLAND skipper Charlie Mulgrew wanted to dive into the Blackburn fans after grabbing the goal that fired them back into the Championship.

But the former Celtic star admitted he had to keep his emotions in check because he feared getting a red card.

Mulgrew’s late header sealed the 1-0 win over set to end their Ibrox careers.

Their union bosses – who have been attempting to establish what the former Scotland players stand accused of – are also increasingly unhappy with the manner in which Rangers have dealt with the disciplinary procedures.

A source close to the saga last night said: “Given the very serious and high-profile nature of this situation the lack of information coming from Rangers is incredible.

“The players and their representatives are furious at the way they are being treated and the concerns raised by PFA Scotland appear to have been routinely dismissed. There is an urgent need to clear this issue up but the contact from the club has been minimal.

“There are players who were inside that dressing room who know what did – or what did not go on – and they have not been asked to contribute to the investigation that the club itself committed to carrying out.” Doncaster on Tuesday that sealed promotion from League One.

However, a yellow card earlier in the game meant he had to stay calm.

Mulgrew said: “I didn’t know what to do after I scored but I didn’t want to pick up another booking.” BARRY FERGUSON fears Rangers could be turning potential managers off by trying to sign players before a permanent boss is in place.

The former Ibrox skipper and Record Sport columnist reckons transfer targets Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield would be great additions to the squad.

But Ferguson is worried about the message it is sending out with director of football Mark Allen appearing to call the shots over recruitment.

He said: “I find it strange and it worries me they’re going for McGregor and Arfield but don’t have a manager in place.

“A manager has to sign the players. I don’t understand a director of football signing players. The manager is the main guy and picks the team – not the director of football.”
