Pet owner left gutted after cat burglar steals birds to sell down pub

-

A PEt owner has been spitting feathers after her budgies were stolen – and sold off in pubs.

A cat burglar broke into Anne Ferguson’s home in Edinburgh and now 11 of her 34 birds are missing.

The accountant believes some of them were sold in bars in the Leith area.

It’s thought others were able to fly off through a living room window the thief left open as he made his escape.

Two of the pets have been recovered. There have been sightings of others.

Anne was hanging washing in the garden of her tenement block last Friday when she heard a crash from inside the flat.

She rushed indoors to find the window open and cages damaged and some of the budgies missing.

Anne said: “I noticed that my bird cage was stolen.

“I got a call from a guy who said he saw the man who stole my birds in a pub. He was trying to sell them in there.”

The theft has hit Anne, 57, hard. She said: “My living room used to be noisy with all of the birds singing. It was beautiful, but now it is just silent.

“The birds have all been so depressed. I haven’t been eating or sleeping, I’ve been worrying constantly. I just want my birds back.”

The budgies include grey pied males with yellow heads and a yellow-andblue crested male.

Police asked anyone with information to call 101.
