THREE people were still in a “serious” condition in hospital yesterday after a bus crash which injured 29.

It’s thought no other vehicle was involved in the incident which saw the bus overturn on a slip road from Glasgow’s Clyde Tunnel on to the Clydeside Expressway on Sunday.

All 28 passengers and the bus driver were taken to hospital after the crash, which happened just after 7pm.

Twelve people were released from hospital following treatment, while 17 were still being treated.

Three people were in a “serious but stable” condition. Police say those involved suffered a “variety of injuries”.

The First Bus is understood to have struck a barrier, mounted an embankment and overturned.

The road was closed overnight on Sunday to allow investigators in.

Police are now studying CCTV pictures from the scene and the approaches to it. The bus will form part of the investigation.

Inspector Darren Faulds from the Divisional Road Policing Unit based in Helen Street, Glasgow, is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash.

He said: “After officers arrived at the scene, they spoke to 28 passengers and the driver of the bus.

“Our investigation is continuing today into the cause of the crash. The bus involved will be fully examined and officers are gathering and studying CCTV footage from the area to assist with their inquiry.

“I’d urge anyone who may have been on the bus and left prior to the arrival of the emergency services, or anyone who witnessed the crash take place to contact the Divisional Road Policing Unit.”

In the aftermath of the crash, one person was said to be in a “critical” condition. That description has now been downgraded to “serious but stable”.

One witness claimed fire crews used “heavy equipment” to reach the injured.

Footage at the scene showed firefighters and paramedics at the front of the bus where crews were helping victims to safety.

Traffic came to a standstill on the A814 heading into the city centre as emergency services attended the incident.
