I’ve got best job in the world
BRENDAN’S LOVING IT IN GLASGOW Rodgers eyes up more title glory in Paradise and insists he’s happy to stay despite being linked with Arsenal job
players and develop them, maximise their talents to take them as far as we can.
“This is a very young team. Lots of youthfulness in it and lots of learning to take place.
“But they have shown they can handle situations and play with composure which is important.”
Snipers down south belittled Rodgers’s achievements with the Hoops by criticising the standard of football in Scotland.
But the Hoops boss said: “You only need to look at the league. It’s better again with some outstanding coaches.
“There is a greater scrutiny on you and you play more games with even greater intensity. To have won it this year, from a coaching and management point of view, makes it better.
“It will never change how Scotland is viewed.
“When I was young and growing up it was always the case. What I do know is that Scotland has given us a brilliant place to work.
“You have real honest players who make it difficult for you.
“You ask any player. If I was at Swansea and you were playing a non-league team, or if you were at Liverpool and playing an Oldham, that is often your hardest games.
“When you are Celtic up here you have that every week. Of course Scotland doesn’t have the image of the Premier League down south, there’s nowhere near the money.
“But a spectacle like last Sunday is a great advert for Scottish football. That’s what I enjoy.
“The work, the development and the pressure that comes with the expectancy.”
After celebrating the title on Sunday, Rodgers’s players headed straight to Glasgow Airport for a trip to the Canary Islands.
But the boss insists their Tenerife tune-up was always in the plans and wasn’t set up for a title celebration.
After a gruelling campaign for the Hoops which will last 11 months this week’s Spanish break will mix enjoyment with the chance to reboot and reset for the upcoming Scottish Cup Final against Motherwell on May 19.
Rodgers said: “It’s part of the preparation. The players have been back since June 18 and it’s been a long winter.
“We now have an extra week with the Cup Final, which we want, but it was always planned.
“There is a chance to train at a beautiful training camp.
“I’ve been there with Swansea and Liverpool in Tenerife, you get some good training and some sunshine.”
