Hoops fans rub it in but Gers support are ready to join them

-

CELTIC fans have been left torn after their side’s humiliation of Rangers made it seven league titles in a row.

The Hoops supporters who called the Hotline didn’t know whether to celebrate their own achievement, or slaughter their arch rivals. It makes brutal reading for Bluenoses but Gers fans didn’t spare the rod either. Steve McSherry,

Uddingston, said: “Some Rangers fans are calling Celtic’s title win ‘irrelevant’. Well, they won’t mind if we help ourselves to another three irrelevant titles then – and we will.” James Brown, Glasgow, said: “That’s the worst Rangers team I’ve seen in ... a fortnight!” Scott Kerr, Knightswood, said: “Celtic were excellent. It was five going on 10. That Rangers team have got to be the most gutless and spineless outfit I’ve seen in all my 42 years. Keep up the good work, lads.” Paul Keenan, Denny, said: “Last week Colin Kelly wanted his prediction printed in the Hotline that Rangers would win the league. He wanted it in black in white so people would know he was right. Remind me never to take any betting tips from him.” Alex Russell, Stevenston, said: “Samuel Ruddock left himself wide open with a pathetic attempt to play down Celtic’s achievement of seven in a row.

“The line ‘where Rangers have come from’, is yet another attempt to play the victim. They were the masters of their own downfall and if they accepted this six years ago then maybe they could have moved on. Celtic have made Rangers look like a Sunday League pub team.” Billy McDonald, Glasgow, said: “Let’s hope Rangers fans call in to apologise to Scott Brown for complaining about his comments. He said they’re not the second best team in league – and it looks like they’ll finish fourth. Broonie’s the greatest club captain in British football.” Brian Connor, via email: “Brown epitomises what Celtic are – a club like no other. Congratulations to the new Billy McNeill of Scottish football.” Gerry McCann, Glasgow, said: “It was another masterclass from the champions. More importantly how any fan of Rangers can support the board is beyond me. Graeme Murty has more decency in one finger than any of his directors. That’s twice in the last two weeks he’s been hung out to dry. It’s shameful.” Denis Bruce, Bishopbriggs, said: “But for Jak Alnwick this would have been even more embarrassing for Rangers.”

The Light Blues legions have trained their sights on the board as much as the dressing room. John Allardyce, Edinburgh, said: “It’s time Gers fans voted with their feet to get shot of this board and Dave King. Gers will finish fourth and Alistair Johnston calls that progress. Rangers are going backwards and the board couldn’t care less.” Stevie Allen, Johnstone, said: “It’s about time the fans walked away. The Rangers team should hang their heads in shame, being paid good money but producing zero football.

“They embarrass every fan. Let’s hope there’s a good investor who can bring back the glory days.” Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “There is no easy fix for Rangers. They had a chance six years ago to fix it from the bottom up and blew it.” Robert Pettigrew, Glasgow, said: “Somewhere on this planet there must be a Rangers’ Fergus McCann ready to step in.” Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, said: “Why don’t glory hunting and unrealistic Rangers ‘fans’ just stay away? I remember the John Greig managerial era and Murty’s side are by no means as bad as they’re being painted.”
