Ferguson: We have to make Firhill showdown Count

-

STEVE FERGUSON admits Ross County must hit winning form on Friday with Premiership survival points dwindling.

The Highlanders’ co-manager will take his team to Firhill for a live TV showdown with a Partick Thistle side two points above them with three games to play.

Despite a recent upturn in form the Staggies have only won twice in their last 23 games. Defeat would leave the Dingwall club all but dead in the water after six seasons in the top flight.

“But victory would take them off the bottom and above a Jags side they hammered 4-0 in Dingwall a month ago.

Ferguson said: “We’ve been relatively solid for the last four or five weeks but what it boils down to is we had 45 minutes where we let ourselves down at Hamilton on Saturday. We accept it wasn’t good enough and relish the opportunity to put that right.

“There were a couple of lapses in concentration leading to a couple of soft goals but it’s done.

“It’s all about how we recover and the staff and players are all looking forward to trying to rectify it. We dodged a bullet on Saturday in that Partick didn’t win. We go into Friday’s game knowing, if we win, we go above Partick.

“And if results also go our way elsewhere we could be within striking distance of another club as well. There’s clarity on it.

“It’s getting to the nitty-gritty and we need to make sure we don’t hit another bump.”
