Thug terrorised exes but didn’t reveal convictions
BY SALLY HIND s.hind@dailyrecord.co.uk A STALKER paramedic who terrorised two ex-partners has been struck off for failing to declare a string of convictions.
Eddie McGarrell narrowly avoided prison last year for terrorising two ex-girlfriends and their families after relationships turned sour.
One victim told the Record how the 54-year-old, of Robroyston, Glasgow, posed as a gangster called “the big bad wolf ” to bombard her with anonymous text threats, leaving her fearing for her young son.
The ambulance service fired McGarrell in 2004 after he was accused of attacking a member of the public but he continued to work as a medic for private firms.
Now watchdogs have banned him from working as a paramedic for failing to notify them of convictions dating back a decade. These involved stalking two partners – physically attacking one of them along with her 15-year-old daughter.
He also kept two offences of careless driving from the Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service.
Victim Pauline Spy told how she was harassed by McGarrell after ending their relationship years ago. He sent her threats and abusive texts in 2014 and 2015, and two cars at her home were vandalised after he said they’d be attacked. Pauline said: “He instilled terror in our family.”
McGarrell assaulted his first victim, a nurse, in 1995 by dragging her into his car and threatening her. He kicked the woman in 2012 as she held her toddler son and kicked her daughter in the same year.
He also admitted causing fear and alarm by calling and texting the daughter and mum and threatening to kill himself. McGarrell admitted five charges at Glasgow Sheriff Court last year and was ordered to do 300 hours’ unpaid work.
