MYST CAN BE A HIT

- BY GARRY OWEN

SCOTCH MYST (8.10) looks the best bet on Musselburgh’s exciting Stobo Castle Ladies’ Night.

Richard Fahey’s gelding produced a career best when striking on the all-weather at Southwell recently but is just as effective on turf and can follow up from a cracking draw.

In-form Fahey can also take the Macroberts Llp Handicap with NORTHWEST FRONTIER (7.10). The four-year-old caught the eye when sixth in a competitive 1m 4f handicap at Thirsk and should be primed for a big effort up in trip. Course specialist SEE

VERMONT (5.40) rates a value bet in the Racing UK Handicap.

Rebecca Bastiman’s sprinter has been in reasonable form on the all-weather and looks to be on a workable mark back at his favourite venue. SEEN THE LYTE (7.40) can shine for shrewd Nigel Tinkler in another trappy sprint. The Kodiac filly slammed Carpet Time at Catterick and can confirm her superiority over that rival with further improvement on the cards.

Iain Jardine’s ELITE ICON (8.40) won’t be far away in the closing staying handicap.

The gelding improved for the step up to 1m 6f when striking at Carlisle last September and can stay on the upgrade for his skilled connections.

But the best bet of the day is SMILEY BAGEL (2.00) at Lingfield. Ed Walker’s gelding has a superb record there and will take all the beating after his good course and distance second to Cayuga last time.

William Haggas likes to raid Yorkshire and CRISTAL SPIRIT (4.40) should score at Redcar.

The Nathaniel gelding was just denied by Immortal Romance on his handicap bow at Yarmouth and can go one better with a repeat of that effort.

Aidan O’Brien said antepost jolly Gustav Klimt is thriving ahead of Saturday’s 2000 Guineas at Newmarket where he’ll probably be ridden by Seamie Heffernan.

The Ballydoyle handler’s son Donnacha O’Brien is pencilled in to ride Saxon Warrior.

Mildenberger will put Derby credentials on the line in the Dante Stakes at York on May 17.

Mark Johnston’s colt entered the Epsom picture by landing last month’s Fielden at Newmarket and the Middleham handler expects him to improve again.
