It’s about time Jimmy got his say in Gers dressing room

-

ALLY GRAHAM believes the real Jimmy Nicholl is finally about to stand up in the Rangers dressing room. The former Raith striker is also convinced the announcement that his old Stark’s Park boss will take the caretaker reins at Ibrox is months overdue.

A League Cup trophy, First Division title and a foray into Europe in three years together in Fife in the mid-90s provided an insight into the 61-year-old’s management style.

Nicholl, left, will be in the dugout with Jonatan Johansson and Graham said: “The Jimmy Nicholl I knew from Raith knew what made players tick but the biggest surprise is that up until now he hasn’t made much of an impact.

“But now he has been given his own head that will change. At the recent Old Firm game Celtic won 3-2 at Ibrox, when Jozo Simunovic was sent off Rangers should have changed their system and thrown on Jason Cummings to put two strikers into the attack.

“I thought Jimmy would have stepped up to the mark and told Graeme Murty they needed to change things as he’s the experienced manager. But they just stayed in the same shape and it played into Celtic’s hands.

“If he’s given full responsibility the first thing Jimmy will do is get his defence sorted out. He’ll also need to shatter the cliques which have clearly been working against Murty. This change is months too late.”
