Missing wife killer ‘flees to Scotland’

In 2002, ITV unveiled a new show, I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! where a group of contestant­s were marooned in a remote jungle. The only real difference was that they were celebritie­s. COOL MOVE Dancing on Ice STRICTLY has been a huge success for the BBC from its first dance step back in 2004.

ITV’s answer to making a show with a similar winning format but with a twist on the sequinned spectacula­r was to swap the

ballroom for TWIRL BEATER Strictly an ice rink. Dancing on Ice launched in 2006, hosted by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby. Not as popular as Strictly, it still got 5.3million viewers in the finale of its most recent series.

But if any show is likely to dance on for ever it’s Strictly. ABBEY GOSSIP Ethel and Anna chat THE original Upstairs Downstairs drama ran on ITV from 1971 to 1975 and was set in a large townhouse in Belgravia, central London, between 1903-1930. It was a huge hit, winning a slew of awards.

Decades later, in September 2010, came Downton Abbey, which was also hugely popular and bore a strong similarity to the 1970s drama.

Upstairs Downstairs was revived by the BBC in 2010 soon after Downton arrived. But it failed to pose a serious threat, running for just two seasons before being cancelled in 2012. Michael Smales, 54, killed his wife Patricia, 44, after she told him their marriage was over.

He admitted her manslaught­er in 2009 and was given an indefinite hospital order.

Smales was being looked after in the commmunity but went missing from his Manchester home on Monday. Officers are concerned for his physical and mental health.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “We believe he could be heading to Scotland.

“Anyone who sees Michael is asked not to approach him but to call police as soon as possible.” Marian Rafael
