relegation. He said: “I had a few promotions in England but the group we had at Ross County was special.

“That’s why I kept in touch with a good few of them. Some of them have moved on now but the Cup win was a great memory.

“No one had us down for winning the Cup so to do it was special and I will always remember it.

“I’m still in a WhatsApp group chat with a few of the County boys and there’s been a bit of craic but no chat about the game.

“There’s plenty of banter but the football side of things is too serious just now to joke about it. But the craic is good.”

Alan Archibald has called for cool heads in tonight’s pressure game and Woods admits he handles occasions like this better than when he was a youngster coming through at Sunderland in the English Premier League.

He said: “I’d rather be further up the league but these are the big games you want to play in. The atmosphere for the last home game against Hamilton was brilliant and hopefully the fans can produce that again. I’d say nerves affected me more when I was young and just coming through.

“I made my first start for Sunderland against Arsenal in the Carling Cup and I was nervous. I was only 19 when I played for Sunderland and Arsenal had guys like Robin van Persie, Alex Song and Sol Campbell so it was quite daunting.

“You deal with it better when you get older because you just focus on your own job. When you’re young you think too much and try not to look stupid.

“You’re insecure because you haven’t been tested so it was more nerve wracking and I enjoy pressure more games now.

“I like to help people out now, even in training. We’ve got Andy McCarthy who has done really well and he’s good asking for advice, even during games, and is a good listener.

“You want to help guys like that because some are really cheeky and you want to rip their heads off! But the younger lads here want to learn.”
