Tragic pair cut free from wreckage of car but lose their fight for life

-

BY KEITH McLEOD TWO people died yesterday in a horror smash involving a car and a lorry.

The casualties had to be cut free from a Mini which collided with a HGV near Bo’ness, West Lothian.

They were flown to hospital by air ambulance but could not be saved.

The crash happened at the junction of the A904 and the A803, near the village of Champany, at about 3.40pm.

A source, who witnessed the aftermath, said: “The scene of the crash was a harrowing sight.

“It looks like the HGV has impacted the Mini on the driver’s side. The car was left a real wreck.

“It seems to have been spun right around because of the impact. The lorry ended up on the verge.

“The fire brigade cut the roof off the car to get to the casualties.

“The crash was at the junction between the A904 and the A803. It would have been busy at the time.”

Last night, police confirmed: “Two people have sadly died following a road traffic collision on the A904, close to Champany, at about 3.40pm.

“An investigation into the accident is continuing.” The road remained closed for hours after the smash.

The biker and his pillion passenger were injured in the accident at Shiel Bridge, Ross-shire.

They were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. Police are investigating the crash.
