BIG CASH REWARD

- BY GARRY OWEN

GET your just deserts when MY REWARD (3.35) lands another brutally competitive renewal of the Chester Cup.

Tim Easterby’s gelding has been a quality stayer for the last few seasons and warmed up for this gruelling test when third to Mirsaale in a hot Ripon handicap last month.

This big prize has clearly been the plan ever since for the six-year-old who has a good record on the Roodee and can make all from a cracking draw in stall one.

The Earl Grosvenor Handicap is trappy but ABOVE THE REST (1.50) is one to take a chance on. David Barron’s gelding is useful on his day and retained plenty of ability when third in a decent event at Thirsk on his return.

The seven-year-old then didn’t handle the heavy ground when flopping in a Leicester Listed contest but can bounce back down in class. EMINENT (2.25) can make a winning seasonal debut in the Group Two Huxley Stakes.

Martyn Meade’s stable star showed his class when landing the Craven at Newmarket last April and went on to run with credit at Group One level for the rest of the campaign.

The son of Frankel should be open to plenty of improvement this term and can land this prize on route to bigger and better things. Middleham handler Mark Johnston can enjoy another winner at this meeting courtesy of TITI MAKFI (3.0).

The four-year-old made relentless progress last year and looked better than ever when just held by Isabel De Urbina in a Goodwood Listed event on Saturday.

Proven at this venue, the daughter of Makfi can capitalise on a drop in grade and trip despite a tricky draw in stall 10.

Tom Dascombe can claim his customary Chester success with KACHY (4.05) in the sprint. A dual winner on the Roodee, the five-year-old has been in terrific form over the winter on the all-weather and can bag his third victory of the year today.

Meanwhile, Carluke handler Keith Dalgleish can take the Chester Plate thanks to EYE OF THE STORM (5.15). The eight-year-old has returned to form this season and remains well handicapped after chasing home Mirsaale in a strong Ripon handicap last time.
