NO POINT IN KILLIE GOING FOR THROAT

-

BY CRAIG SWAN STEPHEN O’DONNELL insists Kilmarnock can’t go toe to toe with Celtic and are unrepentant at parking the Parkhead bus.

The Rugby Park outfit dug out a first post-split point with a 0-0 draw against the champions on Wednesday.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was frustrated at Killie’s defensive tactics, claiming the Hoops wouldn’t have beaten a team of fireman if they’d lined up in a similar system.

But O’Donnell feels the gulf in resources between the sides makes it an unfair fight.

The right-back said: “It wasn’t the easiest game to watch but we are different clubs in terms of budget. We got a point that a lot of clubs have struggled to do this term.

“We had been disappointed with the first three games of the split. We made the top six on merit and have handled the bigger teams this season so it was disappointing to lose three on the spin.

“You don’t want momentum to build against you it was so vital to get a point. Jamie MacDonald had a couple of saves but otherwise it was quiet for him and you don’t usually get that at Parkhead.”

O’Donnell is now looking to finish the season with a flourish against Hearts on Sunday and set up a sweet summer of optimism.

He said: “It’s important for every team to keep their players. The good news is most of ours are under contract. If anyone goes we’ll get money for them and reinvest in the squad.”
