MANAGEMENT

-

NEIL LENNON is combustible. But he’s also clever.

Do not mistake his searing passion for a lack of clarity.

He wears his heart on his sleeve and is prone to an outburst but he also knows exactly what he thinks and Hibs have to take serious note of what he said at Tynecastle.

As far as I’m concerned that wasn’t a heat-of-the-moment reaction. That was a mix of emotions and an understanding of where he’s at right now as a manager.

Let’s get this straight. I find it absolutely astonishing he gets overlooked for the type of jobs his old team-mate Paul Lambert just seems to walk into. Paul has done well enough but is he really as good as Lennon?

How can it be Lambert gets jobs at Premier League clubs such as Aston Villa and Stoke when Lennon would not even as much as get a mention?

Lambert was a Champions League winner as a player but Lennon got a Celtic team into the last 16 of the Champions League while downsizing the wage bill. He found gems such as Virgil van Dijk to sell on for big profits and took down a Barcelona team regarded as one of the greatest we’ve ever seen in the process.

Bolton was a disaster for Florian Kamberi are there on loan. None of them may return for 2018-19. Already, Lennon could be four key players down.

Factor into the mix that Rangers will spend big again and should have someone reputable to spend their money in Steven Gerrard as opposed to Pedro Caixinha filling a plane with his old pals and flying them to Ibrox.

Derek McInnes will strengthen Aberdeen. Hearts will sign a right few. All of a sudden, Lennon might feel this is as good as it can get at Hibs and fourth isn’t good in his eyes.

He can’t get a look-in for good jobs in England now at a time when his stock at Hibs might not get higher, so what chance does he have if he starts to slide?

Hibs have to back him. Show him they will spend money to support him.

They need to because Lennon will have thought this through. I’m sure of it.

His words were not spoken by a man blinded by frustration and anger. They would have been spoken through clarity of thought and a clear vision of what’s ahead.
