ROONEY: IT’S SAM ...OR ME

Wayne: Yanks but no thanks if boss goes

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

Rooney will leave it if seems clear Allardyce will remain in charge at Goodison

WAYNE ROONEY looks certain to quit Everton – unless Sam Allardyce leaves first. The striker is in advanced talks with MLS side DC United over becoming their marquee signing as the Washington club prepare to open their new stadium. Goodison owner Farhad Moshiri gave him permission to speak to the Americans but Rooney wants to stay and see out the last year of his deal with his boyhood club. It’s understood manager Allardyce has made clear he would not stand in the way of the former England skipper leaving, despite Rooney still being his top scorer. In recent talks with Moshiri, the veteran boss laid out his plans for next season and he doesn’t see the 32-year-old figuring in the first team. Moshiri seems to have accepted the direction of his under-fire manager but

other senior boardroom figures are keen on keeping the striker due to his vast experience – and his connection with the fans.

Rooney will give DC United his final answer by the end of May and will leave if it seems clear Allardyce will remain in charge.

But the lifelong Blue – who admitted to wearing Everton pyjamas even when a Manchester United player – is keen to stay.

And if there are indications Allardyce will go – with Moshiri still yet to make a definitive decision over a manager for next season – then he would wait to listen to the next gaffer’s plans.

Fans are growing increasingly restless with Allardyce’s style.

And a mass walk out at Goodison last week has prompted fears within the boardroom that punters will stay away next season and hit revenues badly.
