Jake Wood – who stars as Max Branning in BBC One’s EastEnders – said she has her “ups and downs”.
Barbara’s husband Scott Mitchell, 55, revealed last week that his 80-year-old wife has the disease.
Speaking on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Jake said: “Scott is incredible, they are an incredible couple.
“Someone told me donations to the Alzheimer’s Society have rocketed.
“They had the diagnosis in 2014. They’ve worked incredibly hard to keep it as private as they can.”
Scott added: “We still laugh a lot. “As skilled as the staff are and as much as they want to help, in the end they’ll collapse under the burden.”
The head of the medical service in Gaza begged for help from the rest of the world. Dr Yousef Abu Arish said: “There are hundreds of wounded, which require surgical intervention and operations.
