Alan: Hero can’t Doo it all

-

ALAN ARCHIBALD has warned Partick Thistle they can’t rely on talisman Kris Doolan to save them from relegation, as he hinted the striker might be a sub again tonight.

The stalwart delivered another priceless goal last weekend when he came off the bench to score the winner against Dundee that kept them clear of rock-bottom Ross County.

The first leg of a nailbiting play-off with Livingston looms tonight – yet not even his golden goal at Dens Park may be enough to guarantee Doolan starts.

Boss Archibald said: “Kris can’t do everything. Sometimes it is right to start him and sometimes it is not.

“As a manager you get pilloried either way – because he scored at the weekend I should start him. And if I start him and take him off when he doesn’t score I should have kept him on the bench. You can’t win.

“Sometimes you need a more physical presence, particularly away from home. Good footballers like time on the ball but sometimes in games of that magnitude there isn’t that in the first 40 minutes.

“There is no less pressure than last weekend, we’re fighting to stay in the league. But it’s good to know these players can handle the pressure.

“Livingston have a lot of big lads so we have to stand up and be counted.

“But we can’t get too wrapped up in that aspect because we know they can play good football as well.”
