by SALLY HIND s.hind@dailyrecord.co.uk DETECTIVES were last night probing a second shooting in Glasgow in less than 24 hours.

Shots were fired in the Craigton area just before 1pm on Monday – hours after a failed hit on a 27-year-old man about five miles away in Scotstoun on Sunday night.

We told yesterday how residents reported hearing “five shots” in Craigton as police cordoned off streets surrounding a Toyota Avensis car with a shattered window.

Police would not initially comment on whether they believed the incidents are linked but confirmed shots had been fired at the Toyota. It was unclear if anyone was injured.

They said the shootings, which both happened in busy residential streets, showed a “violent disregard for public safety” and appealed for witnesses. Sources said the Scotstoun incident was thought to be a “tit for tat” response to recent shootings in the city.

Officers were called to Kingsway Court at 6.30pm on Sunday after a man sitting in his car was shot at. They “narrowly missed” their target. The victim tried to flee in his Audi but crashed into a Suzuki parked nearby. He was not hurt but the incident is being treated as attempted murder.

The suspects were still being hunted last night.

Meanwhile, police received reports of shots being fired and a black Mercedes driving off at speed on Jura Street in Craigton on Monday. The car was last seen heading on to Paisley Road West. The damaged Toyota was found on Torbreck Street.

Police said community support was vital in finding “the abhorrent individuals involved”.
