Top tips for that tricky interview by video

-

LOTS of big companies are now using artificial intelligence interviews for the first round of their recruitment process.

The technology means they can cut down on admin and whittle down candidates for assessment days or in-person interviews.

The interviewee uses the camera on their computer or phone to make a recording of their answers to the questions that come up on screen.

The technology scans the answers using algorithms to pick out specific words and phrases, and to detect expressions such as smiles and frowns.

We’ve teamed up with Derek Walker, Finito course leader and AI expert (finito.org.uk), for his tips on how to shine if you face one of these interviews:

● Research the questions you’re likely to be asked and prepare your responses, drawing on past jobs, work experience, extracurricular activities etc from your CV. You can find help on answering interview questions at fish4jobs.co.uk.

● Practise delivery of concise, crisp responses.

● Record your responses using a video interview practise resource if available in your uni careers office or on your laptop/phone.

● Keep your responses to 60-90 seconds maximum. Use your fingers as bullet points (firstly, secondly... etc). It will help you structure your answers.

● Get constructive feedback from friends and family.

● Choose a time for the interview when you will feel fresh, yet relaxed, and won’t be distracted by friends or family.
