Following the Rockies road

-

COLORADO offers unparalleled yearround adventure, glorious vistas round every turn, hundreds of local festivals and events and authentic Western heritage.

Home to Rocky Mountains as well as four National Parks and 11 National Monuments, visitors will enjoy a huge variety of landscapes; with buffalo herds roaming the plains, highmountain meadows covered in wildflowers, dramatic red sandstone canyons and 400metre-high sand dunes.

The vibrant capital Denver is the gateway to the Rockies.

The city boasts a mix of diverse neighbourhoods. Head to Lower Downtown (LoDo) for hip bars and restaurants and make sure you stop by the historic Larimer Square for shopping and take a moment to people watch at the newly revamped Union Station – the beating heart of the city.

The River North Arts District (RiNo) is made up of historic warehouses and factory buildings full of street art and craft breweries.

Denver also has a rich Old West culture and is even home to the final resting place of Wild West hero Buffalo Bill. You can explore his life at the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave.

The Colorado foodie scene has everything from fine dining, to food trucks, and BBQ food. You will find locally-owned breweries throughout the state with a dedicated beer trail to explore in Denver.

Once you have fuelled your appetite then it’s time to enjoy the landscape – like camping on a cliff or embarking on a hike. After all the adventure one of the best ways to unwind is in the natural hot springs dotted around the state.

You can fly to Denver non-stop from London or one-stop from many regional UK airports. Colorado is easy to fit into a fly-drive USA itinerary. Or, for those that prefer to travel by train, you can travel to Colorado on Amtrack’s California Zephyr that connects Chicago to San Francisco.
