Lawwell believes the social, economic and cultural impact Celtic have in Glasgow “doesn’t seem valued” and revealed the club have started a study to “enlighten” the authorities.
He said: “You very rarely get anything positive from the authorities about football.
“If you look at Holyrood it’s offensive behaviour act, strict liability and no public recognition of what Celtic does and what football does for Scotland. That is a frustration.
“Hopefully, by producing this piece of academic work, we can show people in authority what Celtic, and therefore football, contributes to the nation.
“And hopefully we get recognised for that so we could work together to improve things.”
Lawwell also hit out at Glasgow Council for the “draconian decision” to impose a “terrible” one kilometre exclusion zone for parking around Celtic Park on match days.
He added on the Celtic Underground podcast: “We’ve had discussions but to date they’ve fallen on deaf ears. We’ll continue to try to find a solution.
“This is a dramatic change on how our supporters can travel to the match and for us it is unacceptable.”
