SCUM STEAL £600 FROM TERESA, 90

-

SICK crooks swindled a vulnerable 90-year-old out of £600 and abandoned her alone in the street.

Teresa MacDougall, who suffers from poor eyesight, was targeted by two men at her home within sheltered housing in Dennistoun, Glasgow, on Thursday.

The heartless thieves conned their way into the pensioner’s property and claimed they would carry out painting and decorating work for £900.

They then took her to a local post office to withdraw money.

It is thought Teresa handed over about £600 as that was all she could afford. After taking the cash from the OAP, the scumbags drove off, abandoning Teresa in the street. They did not return to carry out the improvement works.

Teresa’s daughter Rhoda MacDougall, 47, told the Record the family are “devastated”. She said: “It’s terrible that anyone should have to go through this, let alone someone at 90.

“We are devastated that this has happened to our mum. I’m the youngest of five daughters and my mum is a hardy woman. She walks five miles every day which, for someone of her age, is quite BY KATHLEEN SPIERS something.” Having not long recovered from a bad fall, Rhoda hopes this callous crime won’t have a lasting impact on Teresa.

“When my mum fell recently, she was in hospital for six weeks with broken bones,” Rhoda said.

“I feel she has only just got her confidence back from that. I really hope this doesn’t affect her lovely nature.

“She has lived in Dennistoun for 44 years and is well-known in the area. If anyone saw anything, it would really help if they got in touch with the police.”

Teresa recalls one of the men appearing to be in his 40s and the other in his 20s, who claimed to be “in training”. The van they drove to and from the post office was white with yellow writing on the side.

Rhoda added: “That is all my mum could tell us from what happened. Her eyesight is failing so she can’t see too much. We think this took place around 1pm. It’s awful.”

A police spokeswoman confirmed two men had “duped the woman” and said inquiries into the incident were ongoing.
