TOOLING UP FOR A TITLE

-

FRASER AIRD insists Dundee United are going all out to seal automatic promotion back to the Premiership next season.

The winger signed a two-year deal with the Tangerines last month – as exclusively revealed by Record Sport.

And he’s just one of several new faces to check in as gaffer Csaba Laszlo plots to guide the Tannadice club back to the big time at the third attempt.

Former Ross County hitman Craig Curran agreed a three-year deal yesterday with ex-Partick Thistle defender Callum Booth, one-time Celtic kid Sam Wardrop and former Rangers striker Nicky Clark also signing up.

Aird said: “United have had a massive clearout and there is a rebuilding process going on.

“They’re bringing players in every BY ANTHONY HAGGERTY other day now and it is exciting to see who we are signing next.

“United want to get automatic promotion this season and we’re throwing everything at it.

“We don’t want to be in the Championship as we want to get back into the Premiership and believe that’s where we should be.

“They have been in the play-offs the past two seasons and fell short but this season they’re going for it.

“United want to try to emulate what St Mirren did last season and run away with the league.”

It’s the third time Aird and pal Clark have linked up in their careers after spells together at Rangers and Dunfermline.

Aird said: “We never played in the Premiership with either club and we’ve vowed to try to make it happen this time with United.

“Every player’s dream is to play in the top flight and that is certainly our ambition now.”

The 23-year-old’s move to United was shrouded in controversy. Aird verbally agreed a new one-year contract with the Pars but hadn’t put pen to paper and Laszlo swooped at the 11th hour.

He said: “I was all set to sign a new 12-month deal. We were talking but nothing was 100 per cent concrete and we did not know what was happening with regards to the manager situation.

“I was still waiting to sort things out with my agent then United came in and offered me a two-year deal. It gave me a little bit of extra security which goes a long way.

“You have to look after yourself and do what is best for you and your family.”
