I’LL ANSWER REAL’S CALL

- BY JOHN CROSS

MAURICIO POCHETTINO has admitted he’d “have to listen” if he was contacted by Real Madrid.

The Spurs boss insisted he was happy in London but refused to rule out a move to the Spanish giants.

Madrid have made the Argentine their No.1 target to replace Zinedine Zidane who is red-hot favourite to get the France job after the World Cup.

Pochettino, who was in Barcelona to launch the Spanish version of his book A Brave New World, said: “When Real call you, you have to listen to them.

“I live in the present, there is nothing more important than that. I enjoy what is happening and what has to be will be.

“My former coach Jorge Griffa told me once I have to let football take me wherever, to not get bogged down in trying to change my own destiny.”

Pochettino signed a new five-year contract at Spurs last week and the club have insisted there is no get-out clause – leaving Real facing a £42million bill to buy him out.

Pochettino has never hidden his desire to one day manage Los Blancos and they gave him the redcarpet treatment before last season’s Champions League clash between the two sides.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez went out of his way to lay on the charm in the Bernabeu in what was clearly laying down the foundations for a future move.

But Pochettino stressed he’s only focused on Spurs.

He said: “I signed a new contract 10 days ago. What will happen tomorrow I don’t know but ‘football is football’ and football will put you in your place.

“Right now I’m so happy in Tottenham and in the commitment and trust they have shown.”
