Scots must show they want Korea defining win
SCOT GEMMILL has challenged his Under-21 heroes to see off South Korea and reach the Toulon semi-finals for the second year on the spin.
Scotland defied the odds to beat France 1-0 and give themselves a big chance of making the last four.
A victory over South Korea this afternoon should be enough but Gemmill doesn’t expect it to be easy. The Scots were in a similar position a year ago after beating Brazil, needing to beat Indonesia in the final match.
After going a goal down they recovered to win 2-1 and Gemmill says his players must be ultraprofessional to get the job done. He said: “Last year we had a tricky fixture against Indonesia which wasn’t easy.
“We conceded an early goal then Ryan Hardie got us out of trouble with a brilliant finish.
“South Korea are a proud nation, they’ll be really up for the game.
“But the challenge for the players is to show they’ve got the intelligence and willingness to prepar. They must make sure we’ve got what we need to help us get what we want.
“By that I mean in terms of energy and attitude. That has to stay the same after the France match.
“In the Togo game we conceded from a throw-in after two minutes.
“The players know – because most of them are playing first-team football – that’s not acceptable.
“You don’t win matches when you do that.
“You must have the concentration and intensity from the first to the last whistle. And it will have to be the same against South Korea.”
