A SCOTS superbike rider has died in a horror crash at the Isle of Man TT races.

Adam Lyon, 26, from Helensburgh, near Dumbarton, was killed during the Supersport 1 race yesterday.

The accident happened at Casey’s corner, just after the 28th mile of the course.

Adam, who started racing aged five with older brother Liam, had been riding his Team Lyon Racing Yamaha bike in his first appearance at the event.

His girlfriend Sarah Lyall, who has been in the Isle of Man with him, had been giving updates about his progress on social media.

Earlier she had written to him. “Have fun, be safe, enjoy it!”

Adam was understood to be the youngest Scots rider to have competed at the notorious TT races in recent times.

His death comes after Dan Kneen, 30, suffered fatal injuries at the event last Wednesday.

Friends paid tribute on Adam’s Facebook page, with fellow rider Cody Nally writing: “Thoughts to all Adam’s close family and friends at this tough time.”

In a magazine interview before the TT races, Adam had said: “It’s still a bit surreal for me at the moment so I’m excited about the whole thing.”

The TT races are known for being one of the most dangerous racing events in the world, with bikes reaching speeds of more than 200mph on the 37-mile course.

Between 1911 and 2018, there have reportedly been 257 fatalities during the Isle of Man TT and Manx Grand Prix races and practices.
